Special Guest!
Last week, we had a special guest in the studio. Amelie was keen on spending her work experience period in a design studio while she is studying Product Design for her A Levels. We were more than happy to accommodate.
On her first day, Amelie got straight down to business and produced a couple of food packaging assessments of products she liked the look of at Tesco. Having never used any Adobe apps before, Amelie did an amazing job, getting to grips with them and producing some fantastic work. Amelie kindly allowed us to post her assessments below.
Following her week in the studio, Amelie gave us some feedback which we have also included below. It was great having Amelie in the studio, and we hope she got a good sense of what it’s like to work in a creative design studio. Please feel free to drop us an email if you’re interested in packaging design and seeking work experience in a design agency.
What did you learn?
That design is about more than the visuals, and that brand strategy doesn’t just involve using pretty colours and fonts. I learnt about the importance of problem solving, networking, carrying out research, and working together as a team. The team helped give me a deep understanding of the process and thought that goes into a final product, and what kind of skills are needed to become a successful designer.
What surprised you the most?
How positive and comfortable the work environment was. All the team members were so kind, helpful, and fun to be around. It was also surprising to see how small the team was, but getting to see how hard they work and watch them bring their designs to life was really inspiring.
What did you enjoy the most?
Getting my own brief to work with and being able to create my own designs for a brand that I love. It was really exciting getting to sketch and produce my designs on a computer, then present them to the team. Seeing how talented each member of the team is has made me realise that I have so much more to learn about design. I’m really grateful for how welcome they made me feel and how much fun I’ve had in my time with them.
